Perfect way to spend a Friday evening: two long-time friends, one pitcher of margaritas, two filled-and-refilled-then-empty glasses, great Mexican food and — best of all — two-plus hours catching up.

Now, if only the margaritas didn’t make us (or at least me) so sleepy …

January 7: The Years Pass By So Quickly January 8, 2015

So I didn’t exactly post this on Jan. 7 — I’ll blame the cold. But last night, I had a wonderful dinner at our second choice of restaurants (thanks to the first one closing because of the cold) with my friends Deanna and her daughter Carly.

Carly graduated from the University of Missouri a few weeks ago, earning her nursing degree in 3 1/2 years. On Monday she starts her real-world career as an oncology nurse at a hospital in Columbia, Mo.

Where have the years gone?

Sure, I feel older — more and more every day, it seems — yet my friends kids¬†(and my nieces and nephews)¬†still seem like … well, kids. Like Carly was here, at age 4.

Of course, look at the date in the lower right corner of the photo. A little time has passed.

The years certainly do go by quickly. And, as they do, little kids go from playing to maturing into confident, caring adults. We just don’t always want to acknowledge it.

All the best, Carly!
